Valentine's Day and finally getting better!

Do I dare say it? I'm afraid to say it, but...

...we finally seem to getting over this flu. The nebulizer is put away (for the most part) and everyone is pretty much done taking their medicines, except for Henry's amoxicillan for his ear infection. Dennis is the only one who is sick now (told you it would get him!) so we were not able to go out to eat for our valentine's dinner. We ordered curbside take-out from Chili's so it still worked out.

The kids were able to go back to school in time for their Valentine's parties and they all came home with loads of candy from their friends. Then they came home to the treats that we gave them for Valentine's Day. Needless to say, they were all sugared up.

The only one who did not seem to be happy with Valentine's Day was Max. I thought he would enjoy his first school celebration of Valentine's Day, but that wasn't the case.

Frown after frown....

...and a scowl.

"I hate Valentine's Day!" is all we heard from Max for about two hours. He curled up in a ball on his bed and I had to actually order him to come eat some of his candy.

After talking about it a little more, we found out that what Max did not like was what was being implied of Valentine's Day--a celebration of friendship.

He finds friendship extremely stressful, and extremely scary.

If you ever use the word "friend" with him, please don't. It's a fear of commitment thing for him. As in, "I'm now friends with you, which means you are going to always be talking to me, wanting to play with me, I have to share my time with you, which means I get no time for me."

If he ever dates when he gets older, his girlfriend should be pulled aside and be warned not to ever mention the word "marriage" for at least 3 or 4 years.

Other things were going on too. He still wasn't feeling well (although he had no fever) and we found out that Max wanted to give Jesus a valentine, so he pulled off his fingernail. Yep, you read that right.

It was hanging off so he decided to tear it loose and it ripped right into the fleshy area. As long as his finger was still throbbing, it only reminded him of why he pulled it off and he kept saying, "I wish I never gave Jesus a valentine!!"

I told him, "you don't need to inflict pain on yourself to give Jesus a valentine, Max. Next time, just say 'I love You.'"

He basically slapped himself on the head for not thinking of that before he pulled off his fingernail.

Later, when his finger stopped throbbing and the memories of the stressful day of friendship began to fade away, Max began to enjoy his candy and later admitted that Valentine's Day was not so bad afterall.

Me and Dennis exchanged valentines as well. He gave me chocolate covered strawberries...

...and I gave him a large beer glass with chocolates. He was delighted and said, "Hey, this should be able to hold at least two beers!"

You don't have to do much for the men on Valentine's Day.

Hope yours was happy!

  1. How sweet of Max to want to give Jesus a valentine. Apparently Valentine's Day can be tough on all demographics.
