Yesterday, Anna surprised us with a fever. It had come on rather
suddenly, and I suppose she was probably feeling sick all day but didn't
have the words to tell us. I should have known something was up when
everyone wanted cookies for their snack but all Anna wanted was apple
juice. (We hardly have apple juice. I actually had to go buy some
because she was so insistent on it.)
Anyway, her fever
climbed up high to 102.5 and all she wanted to do was lie down on the
couch. Everyone was very sympathetic to her, but it was Luke who
surprised and impressed me most! He can be caring, but doesn't show it
often. In fact, this is the first time I have ever seen Luke show any
empathy. You see now why I had to tape it as proof!
While
everyone was off doing their own thing, I overheard Luke say to Anna,
"Are you okay?" Then he sat on the couch and just talked to her, keeping
her company and telling her she would be feeling better soon. Then, to
my further surprise, he asked her if she would like a book to be read to
her! She said yes and then Luke asked Lucy to read to Anna since he
didn't know how. Lucy said she was busy with something (she was drawing
Anna a picture), so I thought Luke would just let it go, but instead he
picked up the book and started "reading" to her! You've gotta know how
Luke normally tends to be to understand how amazing this is. I don't
want to make it sound like Luke is uncaring, but most of the time he's
clueless to others feelings. And other times, he can be mean just to be
mean. So I was so happy to see this concern of his and it was real
concern! Even when Anna wasn't always very grateful for his services
(she was crabby because she was sick), he still stayed by her.
So here is the video. Again, you have to go to the blog in order to see it because it won't work in email.

Hey--here is a P.S for you--the suckers the kids are eating are organic, gluten free, sugar free and vitamin C suckers! Just so you wonder why I would be giving a sick kid a sucker!
So sweet.
