In Luke's class, they are celebrating Grandparents Day on the 14th, and Luke, as well as the other kids, get to invite Grandma and Grandpa to school with them.
While this is a cute idea (the old with the young always makes people smile), I can't help but wonder if this is setting these poor 5 and 6 year olds up for disappointment. Because, of all the generations to invite to school, they (the school) chooses the generation that is least likely to make it, and for the following reasons:
a) They are dead.
b.) They can no longer drive.
c.) They are in a NURSING HOME!!!
d.) They can't remember where they were supposed to go??
e.) They live in Florida.
f.) They are just too old and tired.
Luke is lucky, because Grandma is:
a.) Still alive.
b.) Still drives like a taxi driver.
c.) Lives at home and is very independent
d.) Has a good memory
e.) Does not live in Florida
f) tired but not too old.
I just hope that the little kids who have no grandparents coming don't feel left out. If the school wants to invite family, they should have "Family Day"; that way, whoever can make it can make it, and the people that can't, won't be missed. (No offense.)
I don't know, that's just my opinion.
