All about the family life, the wit, the drama, the craziness that happens on an every day basis in the Arganbright home.

Are we done yet?
After 3 sleepless nights and worrysome days of watching Henry struggle to breathe, watch him cough and throw up about 3 times a day, trying to keep his fever under control (Infant Tylenol never did much), and lay listless on the floor (even fell asleep a few times), Dennis finally gave me the green light to bring him into Urgent Care.
Actually, he didn't just give in, he called me up (I was at the post office) and told me that I better bring Henry into Urgent Care. He said, "Bring him in--he just threw up about 2 bottles and then passed out on the floor."
I said, "What?! Call 911!"
"No, he didn't pass out as in fainting, he fell asleep on the living floor."
Good grief. Our communication rocks.
Dennis has good reason to be hesitant on bringing our kids to Urgent Care though, because our deductible is $9,000. That's right, as in the same price as buying a small used car.
So I brought him in right away; he looked terrible. After hearing his symptoms, they upgraded him from Urgent Care status to ER status. Dennis will be thrilled. (Our Urgent Care and ER are the same floor and building, it just depends on your medical situation.)
I was glad that I brought him in, because his SATS (oxegyn saturation) were 89%, which isn't good. They gave him a nebulizer treatment, which is a breathing treatment to make it easier for him to breathe. They did a chest x-ray with this really cool baby holder tube thing too. I was worried about the chest x-ray because I had memories of when Lucy needed a chest x-ray when she was a baby and how my way of "helping" her was to hold her arms down while she screamed. Not exactly what a mother wants to do to her child.
This "baby holder tube thing" is basically a seat somewhat like a high chair that the baby sits in, except that it has no back on the seat. (Otherwise they wouldn't be able to take an x-ray through the seat.) What he sits on actually is a baby "banana seat" on a bicycle. Then a large clear plastic tube thing comes around his entire body which holds him upright on the banana seat and I have to hold his hands (from inside the tube) straight up. It was really cool and Henry was so confused as to what the heck we were doing that he barely cried at all.
Anyway, it turns out he pneumonia.
I was worried they were going to admit him into the hospital for that but they didn't. They gave us an anti-biotic and told us that if his coughing and vomiting continues, I should bring him in for another nebulizer treatment and that they would send one home with us.
I am so, so, so thankful to have Henry home tonight. And I am so thankful that I could tell Dennis that we had a doctor who tried to work with us financially and still treat Henry thoroughly. Lastly, I am very thankful to have caught something that could have been very serious in time---thanks to Henry's guardian angel!
In heaven, we will find out just how much trouble our angels saved us from.
Prayers for Henry tonight, for a much needed healing sleep.

I will pray for little Henry. The poor little baby. Well, that explains why he's been feeling so sick because he is very sick.
ReplyDeleteDid you say you had a nine thousand dollar deductible? Did I read that correctly? That is VERY LARGE. No wonder you don't want to haul everyone off to the doctor.
The upside is that he's getting treatment.
I hope you weren't exposed to any radiation during Henry's chest x-ray.
I remember having pnuemonia (or however you spell it) as a young adult, and it was exhausting and did involve a lot of throwing up and etc. So I can imagine how the little tyke feels. Then I hurt from using my coughing muscles. This totally explains why he's falling asleep whenever and where ever he can.
Yep, you read that right. Nine thousand dollars. I still don't get it.
ReplyDeleteYes, he's been so exhausted. He's never been the type to just fall asleep anywhere. He is always too interested in what's going on around him. He hardly even sleeps in the car. So to see him sleeping on the living floor because crawling exhausted him, was alarming to us.
Hopefully things will get better now. One more tough night and then things should start to improve, per doctor.
I will continue to pray for Henry. Luckily for me, I have some beautiful rosaries to use while praying (they arrived today). I'm going on vacation and do not anticipate using a computer.
ReplyDeleteWhen does Obama Affordable Care Act kick in, so we aren't spending $$$$$$$$ on health care? Really I'm going to have to bring my piggy bank next time I see any type of health care provider.
Use pennies, I hear they like that. :-)
ReplyDeleteHave a great vacation!
Ours is about the same amount and that's per individual not family. Don't even ask what we pay a month just to have insurance, oy vay!
